Donovan & Ho’s employment practice group is looking for an employment associate (advisory).

About the Role – Employment Associate (Advisory)

This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about employment law but prefer not to be in court.

This role focuses on non-contentious employment matters: advising clients on contracts, policies, internal investigations, workplace restructuring, disciplinary processes, employment support for mergers and acquisitions, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.

You’ll work directly with a wide range of clients, including multinational companies and fast-growing businesses, across diverse industries. Expect challenging, meaningful work that is grounded in real business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising clients on employment contracts and handbooks, and workplace policies

  • Providing guidance on internal investigations, disciplinary and grievance procedures

  • Supporting clients on workforce restructuring, rightsizing, retrenchment and employee transfers

  • Advising on employment issues arising from mergers, acquisitions and corporate exercises

  • Advising clients on compliance with Malaysian employment laws and regulations, on a wide range of topics such as occupational safety and health, sexual harassment, flexible working arrangements, diversity and inclusion initiatives etc.

  • Providing general advisory on matters relating to misconduct or poor performance, including advising on domestic inquiries and performance improvement plans.

Why Join Us?

We are a top-ranked employment law team, consistently recognised by The Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, Benchmark Litigation and Asialaw. What drives us is not the rankings; it’s doing excellent work that matters.

We help clients solve difficult workplace issues with practical, commercial, and strategic advice. We expect high standards and give you the support and tools to meet them.

This is an advisory role and ideal for lawyers who are passionate about employment law but would like to stay out of the court room. Litigators may disagree, but not every great lawyer is in court. Advisory work gives you the opportunity to build deep client relationships, understand how businesses operate, and help them prevent problems before they arise. You will be involved in shaping policies, guiding internal investigations, and supporting clients through change and playing your part in creating a fair work environment for others.

In this role you will work with leading companies from a wide range of industries. The cases we handle are varied and often complex, so there will be plenty to learn.

Culture wise, we are a close-knit team that values collaboration, integrity, clear communication, and doing things well without overcomplicating them.
